Retrieving/Resetting Lost or Forgotten BCIT Login Credentials
Almost all BCIT systems use the same login credentials. If you need to log in to a BCIT tool or system but have forgotten your credentials, you can retrieve your login ID or reset your password following these instructions.
Fill in the three fields of personal information (legal first name, legal last name and birth date) and click the Search button.
If a match can be found using your provided information, your primary BCIT email address (@my.bcit.ca or @bcit.ca) and your BCIT ID (A0…) will now be displayed. You can then use this information to login.
Note: Although your primary BCIT email address is your login ID for most BCIT systems, you will still occasionally need to know your BCIT ID (A0…), which is also revealed through this process. For example, if you need to reset a forgotten password, you will need to use your BCIT ID in order to do so. You may also need to provide it when filling in various BCIT forms.
You can reset your own forgotten password if you’ve set up a security question and provided an additional email address on your myBCIT profile.
If you have not set up a security question or provided an additional email address, you will have to contact the IT Service Desk via phone (604-412-7444, option 1) to have your password reset.
To reset it yourself, in a browser:
If you have forgotten your password, click on this link: Forgot Password.
Type your BCIT ID (A0…) in the BCIT ID field.
Note: If you do not know your BCIT ID (a 9-digit unique identifier starting with A), you can retrieve it following the instructions above.
Check the I’m not a robot captcha checkbox and click the Submit button.
Follow the instructions to either answer your previously set security question or send an email to your external email address with instructions to reset your password.
If you choose to use the security question option:
Type the answer to your question in the answer field.
Check the I’m not a robot captcha checkbox and click the Submit Answer button.
If you choose to send an email to your external email address:
Confirm that the masked version of the email address displayed matches your email address.
Click the SendEmail button.
Check your external email inbox for the password reset email.
Note: The password reset link in your email will expire after three hours.
Click the Reset Password link in your email.
On the Change Password page, type and retype your new password into the fields.
Note: Your new password:
must be between 8 and 20 characters
must contain at least:
one upper case letter (A to Z)
one lower case letter (a to z)
one number (0 to 9)
Optional: one of the following special characters: $ ! # _ + = : . ~ ^ ( ) { } [ or ]
cannot be your date of birth
cannot be a previously used password
For the best security, make your password longer than 15 characters and something you can remember. Ensure your password does not contain personal information such as an address, birthdate, or the name of a pet.
Click the Reset Password button.
Note: You will see a red error message if your new password does not match, or does not meet the security requirements. Re-enter your new password, fixing the errors, and try again.
