Onboarding considerations for Student Employees

Your username will change from an @my.bcit.ca to an @bcit.ca suffix and this new username will be used to log into all BCIT resources including Faculty, Staff and Student resources.  You should have received an automated email indicating the timing and your new username to your personal email address.  Please ensure that you check and spam/junk folders for this email and your password will remain unchanged.

In the event that you didn’t receive an email or are unable to access it and are having issues signing in, you can confirm your username by following these steps. In your browser:

1. Go to id.bcit.ca
2. Enter your BCIT ID Number (A#) in the username field, your existing BCIT password in the password field and click Sign In.
   
3. A message should appear on screen that will indicate your username that will be used to log into all BCIT resources
   

Once you have been onboarded as a student employee you will be automatically enrolled in DUO MFA which is the employee MFA solution at BCIT.  You will no longer use the Microsoft Authenticator student MFA solution, instead you will use DUO MFA to access all BCIT resources that are available to Faculty, Staff and Students.

In the event that your employment ends with BCIT and you continue your studies, you will need to revert back to the Microsoft Authenticator student MFA solution once you have been completely offboarded.

The student employee onboarding process varies by department and school, however a student requisition form will need to be submitted to payroll in order to process the hire.  Please ensure that the student requisition form is submitted to Payroll at least 12 days prior to the student employee’s start date to avoid any delays in access provisioning.

Payroll will aim to process student requisition forms within five business days of receipt, independent of the timesheet schedule.  Once processed, Payroll will send a confirmation email.

By default, student employees will be provisioned basic employee access as early as 7 days prior to their start date.  For more information on requesting additional access for student employees, please refer to the section below.

By default, student employee access is quite limited.  If your student employees require access to any additional BCIT systems including but not limited to: email, file directory access, and/or any additional systems please submit a request for access to a system or file directory form in the IT Services Catalogue.
