Setting up BCIT Email and Connecting to Exchange Online on Your iOS Device
Although you can always access your BCIT email through a browser, including on mobile devices, you can also set up your BCIT email in an app and access and manage it that way.
Moving to Exchange Online
Starting in April 2022, BCIT has been moving BCIT employee email from our current Outlook/Exchange email system to Microsoft 365 Exchange Online. Users will be informed when their account has been migrated, and they will then need to update their mobile app account information, following the instructions below.
Using the Outlook app gives you access to additional functionality that isn’t available in the default iOS Mail app, including the ability to manage your shared mailboxes and calendars and to download attachments on calendar events.
Note: If you were previously using the Outlook iOS app with different settings – such as prior to your BCIT email account being migrated to Exchange Online in 2022 or with a different BCIT email address due to a name change – you will need to remove your previous profile before you will be able to connect. If you encounter difficulties with removing your profile it may be simplest to delete the app and all of its data and start again.
Although we recommend using the Outlook iOS app, which gives you access to more functionality than the default Mail app, you can use the default Mail app if you prefer.
Note: If you were previously using the Mail app to access your BCIT email with different settings – such as prior to your BCIT email account being migrated to Exchange Online in 2022 or with a different BCIT email address due to a name change – you will need to remove your previous account information in Settings first and then follow the instructions below.
In Settings on your iOS device:
Depending on your current iOS version, go to:
Mail > Accounts (iOS 14 and 15)
Passwords & Accounts (iOS 12 and 13)
Accounts & Passwords (iOS 11)
Mail (iOS 10)
Mail, Contacts, Calendars (iOS 9 and earlier)
Go to Add Account.
Select Exchange from the list of possible new account types.
Enter your primary BCIT email address in the email field and tap Next.
Note: “Exchange” will auto-fill in the Description and you can keep that as is or change it to something more descriptive, such as “BCIT email” if you like.
A message will appear asking if you want to sign into your bcit.ca Exchange account using Microsoft. Tap Sign In.
You will be redirected to BCIT-branded login page with your email address filled in. Enter your usual password and tap the Sign In button.
Choose the Services you want to sync with Mail (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes) and tap Save.
Note: If this is the first account you’ve added an account to the Mail app, you may also be given an opportunity to choose whether to Protect Mail activity and allow the Mail app to send you Notifications.
You’re done! You can now access your BCIT email in the Mail app.
Note: If applicable, remove your existing BCIT mail profile from your device prior to enrolling your device.
Setting up your Exchange ActiveSync account will enable you to wirelessly sync your Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, and Notes with your iOS device.
Enter your email address (e.g., “bsmith26@bcit.ca”).
Enter your BCIT password.
Optional: If you want to, you can also enter an account description.
Tap Next (top right corner).
