BCIT has a one-year VMware Academic site license that expires March 21, 2024.
VMWare provide their academic site licensing as a 365-day offering and do not provide an opportunity to realign starting dates for their site license products.
VMWare instructors and students should be aware of the impact of renewing a site license during an academic term, and be proactive with steps to mitigate any disruptions to ongoing classes
Impact of site license expiry and renewal
BCIT will create a new site license agreement but students will not be automatically re-enrolled.
Any current subscriptions through BCIT will expire March 22, 2024 and student subscriptions will stop working.
Re-subscribing requires two steps:
- Request to have a VMware subscription assigned to you.
- Register your VMware subscription so it is ready to use.
Steps taken to remediate this issue
- Communication to instructor stakeholders who use VMware products to teach.
- Targeted email to students issued subscriptions in January 2024.
- Students & Faculty that were issued a subscription in January 2024 will be re-issued a subscription, but will only have to complete Step 2 and register that subscription before it can be used. Check your email for the subscription assignment from the link in Step 2.
- Other users will need to complete both steps. A reminder that instructors should request subscriptions for classes instead of individual students so as to request access in a more orderly fashion.
If you have questions, please contact the IT Service Desk.
