Oracle has published changes to the Oracle Java Licensing model earlier this year to license every employee in an organization regardless of whether Oracle Java is utilized or for development-only. IT Services has contacted all affected BCIT users as of May 2023 and has notified them of these changes. As an alternative to Oracle Java, it is suggested to use OpenJDK, Oracle’s free, GPL-licensed, production-ready version that is compatible with Linux, Windows, or macOS environments.
