myVPN: myVPN should be the first choice for students, staff, and faculty to connect to BCIT’s secure network to access common resources. For most of us, this means myVPN is the best way to access BCIT resources remotely. myVPN will give you the same access that you would get as if you were on campus connected to the BCIT network. myVPN provides all necessary access for AppsAnywhere apps that require the use of a VPN to connect to BCIT’s license servers.
External contractors cannot use myVPN.
AccessAnywhere: AccessAnywhere is used to provision access to a small amount of business applications which require elevated access. Only current staff, faculty, and approved contractors can use AccessAnywhere after submitting a request for approval.
Systems that require the use of AccessAnywhere to connect remotely:
DDC (Building Maintenance)
Clockwork
Titanium
Further, many tools that require elevated access can also be accessed through the BCIT Staff Virtual Desktop, which does not require approval. The BCIT Staff virtual desktop is only available to current staff and faculty at BCIT.
myVPN uses split-tunnelling which means that when you connect to common places in the internet such as google, or other websites, you will be using your own internet connection. myVPN kicks in when you connect to BCIT resources such as shared network drives, printers, or other BCIT systems.
Some applications in AppsAnywhere require licensing from BCIT to run. These applications will need to connect to the license infrastructure on BCIT’s private network to check out a license. Connect to myVPN before launching those applications and they’ll launch correctly. This necessity is always clearly marked in the app tile.
