Mapping a Drive Letter to a Network Folder

All folders can be accessed through the S: drive.

Select the Start Menu, and search for ‘This PC’.
Right-click This PC and select Map network drive.
For each of the required mappings, enter the appropriate information in the window as follows:
1. For the Share In (I: drive) enter
  \\home.fs.bcit.ca\shareinout\in
2. For the Share Out (J: drive) enter
  \\home.fs.bcit.ca\shareinout\out
3. For Departmental shares (S: drive) enter
  \\files.ad.bcit.ca\shared
Once you have finished entering your required drive mappings, click Finish and your drive(s) should appear in File Explorer after a short time. If prompted for ID and password, enter your usual BCIT login credentials.

Navigate through the S: drive folder structure to the folder you wish to map. As you click into folders the address bar in Windows Explorer will update.
When you are in the correct folder, click the address bar to see the path. It will already be highlighted.
Click anywhere in the address and use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the cursor to beginning of the address, after “S:” and before the initial “\”. Hold down shift on your keyboard and use the right arrow on your keyboard to select the rest of the address right to the end. Copy your selection.
Click on the Tools menu and select Map network drive…. The Map Network Drive dialogue box will open.
Select an unused drive letter in the Drive: dropdown menu.
In the Folder: field, type “\\files\shared” (excluding the quotes).
Paste in the address you copied in step 3.
- You will now see the full network path, to the folder you wish to map, in the Folder: field of the Map Network Drive dialogue box.
Confirm that there is a check mark in the Reconnect at Logon box.
Click Finish. The folder will now open in a new window and will be available in your list of drives, mapped to the letter you selected.
