Reporting a Stolen Computer

Who do I report the theft to and how do I get a replacement computer?

Here are the required steps you must take to have your computer replaced:

  1. Immediately report the theft to Security. They will open a case and give you the case number.
  2. Prepare a purchase requisition. In the body of the requisition, note that the order is to cover Theft Replacement and quote the case number Security provided in step 1.
  3. Submit the purchase requisition to Purchasing Dept. for approval.
  4. Purchasing Dept. will forward a copy of the approved requisition to IT Services. (IT Services requires the purchase requisition information before any replacement computer can be provided.)

Note: These steps must be completed in this order. IT Services cannot replace your computer without an approved purchase requisition from Purchasing Dept.

How long will I wait for a replacement computer?

IT Services does our best to arrange a speedy replacement. The waiting time for replacement computers is dependent on a number of factors including but not limited to:

  • Purchase req paperwork complete with case number from Security.
  • Whether a suitable replacement is in stock.
  • The degree of urgency.

Important: If BCIT equipment is stolen from a private residence or vehicle, the home or car insurance is the primary coverage. Report the theft to the insurance agent immediately.
