Course Outline Definitions

Learning resources

In this section, list all required and supplemental learning resources required for the successful completion of the course – including, but not limited to, textbooks, lab books, reference works, calculator, computer software, and internet resources.

Note: For books and reference works include full bibliographic information.

Course goals

This section expands on the course description (will be automatically published with your outline) to provide a more detailed account of the statement of course goals identifying the major knowledge, skills, and attitudes toward which the course learning activities are directed.

Evaluation criteria (Required field)

This section outlines the evaluation methods that will be used in your course.

  • A description of the evaluation type/method (Criteria)
  • The weighting of each evaluation item as a percentage of the final mark (%)
  • Additional information about each evaluation criteria (Comments)

Note: Evaluation of students shall be based on the learning outcomes prescribed in the course outline.

Attendance requirements

Please include any additional attendance requirements you have for your course that are not already covered in BCIT’s Student Regulations, policy 5101 – Attendance Policy [PDF]. Where the attendance is mandatory or forms part of the evaluation criteria, the attendance requirements will be detailed as required by the student regulation policy.

Course specific requirements

In this section, please include any additional requirements that are specifically related to this course that students should know about.

Course schedule and assignments (Required field)

Please list all course schedules and assignments for the course including the following for each assignment:

  • When the assignment will be assigned
  • What material will be covered
  • What readings should be completed
  • A short description of the assignment
  • When the assignment is due

Note: The recommended table headings are Date, Material Covered, Readings, Assignment and Due Date.

In this section you may add additional information about your class schedule, assignments, topics, etc. that does not fit into the previous Assignments and due dates section.

If safety equipment or protective clothing is required for this course then enter that information in this section.

Enter any additional information about this course that you would like to appear in the course outline.

Approvals

In this section, the instructor verifies that the course outline is current. The program head/chief instructor and the associate dean responsible for the teaching of the course will verify that the course outline has been reviewed. Where applicable, the program head/chief instructor of the receiving program should also verify that the course outline has been reviewed. The recommended sequencing of approvals is instructor, receiving program head/chief instructor, teaching program head/chief instructor and teaching associate dean.
